As someone who got laid off from a job they didn't love in September who's trying to figure out how to pursue production work while also being financially stable, this was super affirming to read. I hope to read more in your substack, you have a great sense of humor and tone in your writing. You got this!

This was really good! And relatable. Try starting as a writer’s assistant or PA on production.

I heavily relate to this at 26, having actually quit my job this year. Keep going, you’re just getting started. I pray that you remain healthy, safe, and protected 🩷.

You're a funny writer, kind of Yes Minister meets Tiktok (in terms of vibe, not content). I'd definitely read more posts like this.

I don't know how much you make from YouTube, but if it's enough to live in New York moving to LA isn't that crazy. An NYU film degree, two produced short films, and an established YouTube career writing and producing scripts will all work in your favor.

Have you applied for any writer's PA jobs? I've heard those are good to get a foot in the door and meet people. I'm sure you know better than I whether this is a good idea, but I have a friend planning the same move for the same reason and I've been curious how a lot of these things work.

Hi thank you so much for the kind words and reading! Applying to writer's PA jobs is a great idea, I'm just not exactly sure where to find them. Also I keep saying I would move to LA for a job, but I've realized it's the kind of the place where you go and then find a job. Which is very scary to me, but not impossible. I'll probably ponder this more in future posts. Thanks for following along!

My friend trying to move to LA is talking with a TV writer he knows, who will try to hook him up with one. He doesn't have a degree or anything; he got lucky and met this guy's wife when they were both working at a summer camp. Depending on who you know, you might consider something similar. I've had people tell me it feels pointless or like cheating, but I've read 80% of positions get filled that way.
